How aerodynamic is Lightning McQueen?
Are you interested in understanding the aerodynamics of Lightning McQueen from the Cars franchise? Of course you are. Well you’re in luck, Seth Dillard, an Aerodynamics Engineer, analysed a newly released CFD of Lightning McQueen. With his professional analysis, it’s become clearer some of the aerodynamic details that may have helped - or at times hindered - Lightning McQueen’s performance in his journey for 7 Piston Cups.

Car of the week 💰
The Alfa Romeo 8C has had a permanent place in my Euromillions garage since it was released. Looks are subjective, but if you don’t think the 8C is a good looking car then it’s hard to believe that’s not a you problem. The yellow lipstick? OK, I could understand that not being an attractive addition, but I kinda like it. It’s not actually that fast, 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and tops out at 181mph, but it does it in style. This one is currently for sale on Autotrader for just over £200k.
Small screen scene 📺
What an unbelievable head-to-head from Top Gear - One was designed by a Formula 1 genius, the other features the engine out of the 2016 title-winning Mercedes, but is the Aston Martin Valkyrie or Mercedes AMG One the ultimate F1 car for the road?
Hot off the press 📰
Another ‘no so’ hot off the press, I suspect you have may seen by now that Ferrari are really dining out on the seemingly insatiable appetite for special editions, and the ‘undisclosed’ prices they’re able to charge. This is the SC40, a homage to the F40, built from the foundations of the 296 GTB. That bodykit is a pretty decent value-add then, turning a £250k car into something that will cost comfortably 7 figures.
Seen in the wild 👀
I spotted this modified Ferrari 488 parked outside Euston station. It took a bit of digging to find out anything about it, but I managed to find this instagram account from the owner, showing it flying around London with a BMX fixed to the roof. It has a modified carbon fibre louvred engine cover and most strikingly, top exit exhausts. They must be extremely short.
