Lister to Lotus - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment

I spotted a car that I've never seen before, do you recognise it?

Social spotlight 📱

It’s unlikely that you haven’t already heard about the jaGuar re-brand, it’s certainly attracted a lot of attention. The headlines are; they are now spelling jaGuar with mixed upper and lower case, they deleted all their social posts and started again by posting an advert that could be confused for a Christmas perfume advert directed by someone on acid, captioned ‘Copy nothing’. I’ll be honest, I’m here for it. You can’t delete history and heritage, that will live on, but I’m interested to understand more about their new direction. They are releasing teaser shots for their new car on their Insta, it will debut in Miami on Dec 2nd.

Car of the week 💰

It is a recreation, but it was built by Lister. The Lister Knobbly was built to celebrate the racing success of the 1950’s as a very limited run of original specification continuation cars, using Brian Lister’s original working drawings and manufacturing jigs along with the expertise of some of the engineers that were involved in the original cars build more than half a century ago. It’s a casual £300k but you’re not going to bump into another.

Small screen scene 📺

In this series from Donut, they’re modifying 2 Mustangs to become drag cars. They’re HiLow format means that for every element, one of them gets the best equipment available no expense spared, while the other is built on a tight budget. It’s really interesting to see which premium parts make the biggest difference and where they’re actually better off saving money.

Hot off the press 📰

Following on from the jaGuar re-brand, Lotus show us how to keep it real. Admittedly, the press on this one cooled down a long time ago, 1969 to be exact, but it’s still quite funny. Lotus felt the need to clarify the plural of Lotus, which they declared was…Lotus. How do you feel about that?

Seen in the wild 👀

I’m sad enough that it’s rare I see a car I don’t recognise at all, let alone a brand I’ve never heard of. I spotted this in Sicily and assumed it must be a Lada, but it turned out to be an Autobianchi A112. Released in 1969, over 1.2 million of these were produced. It proved popular in Europe, but was never sold in the UK, do you recognise it?
