£5,000 is a hot hatch budget that’s increasingly under threat. It’s harder to find an ‘enthusiast’ car within that budget that won’t bring with it an impending bill of a similar amount. CarThrottle think they have the answer, posting the 10 best hot-hatches for under £5k. What would you pick?

Car of the week 💰

There were only 8,000 BMW Z1s built and I understand there to be only around 50 on the roads in the UK, so it surprises me to see that, firstly there’s one for sale on Auto Trader and secondly it’s “only” listed at £45k. The colour is ‘metallic dream black’ - the operative word there is dream, check out the close-ups of the paintwork! With so few built and such a unique design (those doors!) this surely has to be a future classic if it isn’t already.

Small screen scene 📺

YouTube channel CarThrottle have been reeling since losing some key presenters in AutoAlex followed by Edwin, and now it’s been confirmed that Jack and Ethan have also left to create their new channel All The Gear. There has been quite a lot of noise about this, but I prefer to see the positive side, what was 1 channel is now 4, and that means 4x the content to enjoy! Check out Jack and Ethan’s first vid below.

Worth a visit 🚘

At the time of writing, there are still tickets available for next weekend’s Shedfest. “The best show for the worst cars” celebrates the obscure, high-mileage heroes and project cars. This year it’s at Mallory Park and tickets are around £20 each.

Can a car look self-assured? The Range Rover classic certainly has a presence and one which exudes confidence and understated elegance.
