DB2 to 2002 - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment

Can you believe it sold for that little?

Social spotlight 📱

I’m already a big fan of the BMW 2002, but these ones are extra special. Built with a full-carbon fiber body, weighing just over 800kgs and fitted with the engine of your choice (an E30 M3 engine in this case). One of my favourite restomods.

Car of the week 💰

This 1955 Aston Martin DB2 sold at the London RM Sotheby’s auction for just £28k. I can’t be the only one to be astonished by that!? Sure, it needs restoration, but the interior is upholstered and it comes with an engine which must be worth something in itself. This may be sacrilege, but I’d actually be interested to see someone resto-mod this in a kinda scrappy style. Without any care for originality, get it back on the road with some patina and whack in some modern running gear from something like a Honda S2000. Could look so mean.

Small screen scene 📺

Some of this video looks like it’s in slow motion vs. the drag races we’re used to Carwow putting together, but it’s fascinating to see the progress that the GTI has made over the year. It still appeals as the perfect everyday car that can do it all, bringing performance and practicality while remaining affordable and (largely) understated.

Hot off the press 📰

Did you know that in 1999 BMW strongarmed a V12 into their smallest car, the Z3? Honestly though, the fact the engine fits is the most impressive part of this project, the V12 only made 326hp and was better suited to large cruisers like the 7-Series, so even though this muscle car Z3 had a huge engine and only weighed around 1400 kgs, it still took 5.5 seconds to get from 0-60 mph.

Seen in the wild 👀

Errrrm, yeah. It caught my attention for sure, but not for the right reasons. The roof situation is kinda cool, but the rest of the car is unconvincing at best. I have no idea what this is, or what it’s based on. It looks like someone described an Enzo over the phone and someone tried to replicate it.
