LEDs to M3s - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment

Are animated LED eyeballs legal?

Social spotlight 📱

I know this is silly, and probably illegal, but these animated eye-LEDs which go in your windscreen are really amusing. Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of the Cars films that these appeal. I’ll see myself out…

Car of the week 💰

This will have featured before, and it’s featuring again - E46 M3 values seem to have fallen off a little over the last year. You can pick up a leggy manual, coupe for just over £10k, but more crucially you can pick up a really good condition car with more reasonable miles for less than £20k. Surely these have to be a good long term bet and great fun to own in the meantime. The example below is 1 of 12 finished in Diamond Metallic which is a kinda rose pink silver, I like it.

The Ferrari 288 GTO User’s Guide - these user’s guide videos from DK engineering always provoke amusing comments “Finally i can use mine”, but they’re also a fascinating insight into the world of the few. Well worth a watch.

Worth a visit 🚘

RM Sotheby’s returns to Cliveden House Hotel on July 8th to host its second summer sale at the historic country house hotel. There’s quite a spread of vehicles available at the auction - the catalogue is, as always, immaculately presented and well worth checking out.

Seen in the wild 👀

Americans are good at naming cars, this otherwise underwhelming vehicle is the Chevrolet…Starcraft 💫 It sounds like it could take you on a tour of the universe, but it’s actually a 90’s mash-up between Chevrolet and Starcraft Vans, the latter specialise in (supposed) luxury conversions. Expect lots of leather, old school tv screens and captains chairs. I can imagine a 90’s American punk band going on a poorly funded tour in one of these. An example in much better condition sold on Car and Classic for just over £7k.
