Project G to Project V - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment

How much do you think it would cost to make a 1:1 scale G-Wagon out of wood?

Social spotlight 📱

It’s hard to understand how this came to be or what the motivation was to take on such a monumental project, but the guy in this clip has made a full sized G-Wagon out of wood. Impressive.

Car of the week 💰

The Citroen Ami has some serious limitations; chief among which is that it will only do 27mph, but also have a journey-limiting range of 46 miles and are all LHD. Even with that considered, I still can’t help but be enamored by its simplicity, size and price point. With a number of London boroughs introducing 20mph zones and most city journeys only being a handful of miles, I still think it could have a role to play. You can buy them for as little as £5,000 - at what price point do you start to find them an irresistible second car?

Worth a visit 🚘

It’s been a long time since I visited the Ace Cafe, but it’s a bit of a cultural icon and worth checking out. They have a French classic and performance car meet on the evening of Monday 18th of November, which could be the perfect excuse for a visit.

Hot off the press 📰

Caterham confirms it's working with Yamaha to create a production version of the Project V and are aiming for a 2026 release. ‘Project V is not just a concept or design study, we’ve conducted engineering and production feasibility throughout the development process,’ Laishley adds. ‘Project V fulfils our ambition to sustainably grow the company and explore electrification simultaneously. Subject to the next phases of development and technical capability, Project V could be brought to market towards the end of 2025 or early 2026 with a target price starting from less than £80,000.’

Seen in the wild 👀

This mk1 Toyota MR2 was resplendent in red. The owner clearly takes very good care of it and I’d venture it’s had some level of restoration in its history. They weigh just less than 1,000kgs, are powered by 1.6l, 4 cylinder engine and produced a modest 122bhp. Due to the relatively light weight, they still managed to reach 60mph in a just about respectable 8.2 seconds. The styling inside and out is very much of the era, I thin it’s aged well, what do you think?
