Sportwagon to Supercat - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment
Have you had enough of restomods yet?
You have to watch this. What initially looks like a back-breaking jump turns into an incredible showcase of modern rally car suspension. The dampers are correctly referred to as witchcraft, they defy belief.
Car of the week 💰
It has the quadrifoglio adorned on the front wing and quad exhausts at the back, 2 clues that this isn’t a ‘normal’ 156 estate, it’s the 3.2 GTA Sportwagon with the famous (and beautiful) Busso engine. It’s worth checking the ad out just for the photos of the engine.
Small screen scene 📺
There are far too many restomods already, right? Apparently, not. Let me introduce the
TWR Supercat, based on the Jaguar XJS. This was unveiled just before the Jaguar rebrand hullabaloo, I can’t help but think this is what the Jaguar loyalists were hoping for from Jag, but they have TWR to thank. That name may sound familiar, but it’s actually a new company albeit one run by the son of original TWR founder Tom Walkinshaw. Anyway, the Supercat… there’s a mad new carbon body, a new interior, new chassis, plus a bored and supercharged 5.6-litre V12 good for around 650bhp.
Podcast of the week 🎙️
OK, confession time, I haven’t actually listened to this podcast yet - I’ve got such a backlog to work through! However, I do keep getting targeted by it and they do get a lot of guests on that overlap with the YouTube videos I enjoy and other podcast. On The Road To Success podcast, Benedict Fowler interviews people from the automotive world, like Mat Armstrong and Alex Kersten.
Seen in the wild 👀
I spotted this 1973 Citroen SM parked up in North London, and I’d argue it’s as much a piece of art as it is a car, it’s so Citroen. I love that the number plate has its own little windscreen. It was revered in its day for being not only fast but also incredibly comfortable - credit to its self-leveling hydro-pneumatic suspension. They command a high price for a Citroen, with good examples costing at least £40k. Coincidentally, DS recently made a tribute to the SM called…the Tribute.
