Touring car to Turbo - Your weekly dose of automotive nourishment

What a pair of numberplates

Social spotlight 📱

Goodwood Revival has recently been and gone, bringing some incredible machinery to the track. Watch two Ferrari 250 GT SWBs go head-to-head in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy at Goodwood Revival 2025. I’m sure they’re driving well within their limits, but they’re still sliding around in close proximity, the cost of a mistake isn’t worth thinking about.

Car of the week 💰

A sheep in wolf’s clothing. What started life as a humble Audi 80 has been (visually) converted into a full Touring Car recreation by specialists Area 22 Designs. It needs some mechanical attention, especially if you want the performance to match the looks, but at less than £4,500 it performs well on the fun / value scale.

Small screen scene 📺

AutoAlex’s videos can sometimes be a bit bombastic in presentation, but this video takes its time and covers the mechanical overhaul of their Renault 5 GT Turbo, in an effort to get it running for the first time in 5 years.

Hot off the press 📰

For a news story that’s all about speed, I’m very slow to being it to you, but in case you missed it - there’s a new champ in town. The Yangwang U9 Xtreme hit 308mph to become the world's fastest ever production car. Yes, it’s electric. It’s the one that can jump on the spot.

Seen in the wild 👀

A few months back, I spotted a BMW IX with the numberplate HAPPY which I found quite amusing. I just past the same spot last weekend and noticed noticed a Bentley with the numberplate SAD. Whatever you think of private plates, you must concede that’s quite a pair!
